I am booking a one-way trip from LAX to Oahu, HI. I found tickets online through the same airline for $300. It has 3 flights, one from Burbank to Portland, Portland to LAX, and then direct from LAX to Oahu... If I book this, is it possible to show up just to the 3rd flight and save them the gas? I tried just LAX to Oahu and it's $900 per ticket.... strange! Any ideas?

If you don't show up to the Burbank-PDX flight, the airline will say you are a no-show and cancel your flight. You will not be able to board at LAX. Just open up a frequent flier account with the airline and collect the miles. You get to see Burbank and Portland.

that doesn't make sense too bad you don't tell us the airline no airline will let fly to portland from the LA area just to turn around fly back to the LA area - when you just leave the LA airport area! what airline is this? too bad you don't tell us so we cant check for yourselves i think you made it up else you would have said I'm on american or alaska airline to portland...

One strange thing with airline tickets is that the Contract of Carriage-- or the legal document you agreed to when you bought your tickets says that you have to use the tickets in the exact order in which they are issued and you have to use them all.. Meaning that if you have a ticket that is A-B-C-B-A you can't just show up at point B to check-in..You have to use all the ticket parts, that means you have to check-in and board at point A-- as you were ticketed.. On the way home if you were to 'jump ship' at point B without taking the last leg, B to A flight, you'd have a hard time getting your luggage back-- the airline won't "short check" bags- to point B, that is check bags to a point before your final ticketed destination. Fares aren't calculated on a per mile basis as one might think.. rather it's done more on a supply and demand basis.. and sometimes using this method it creates some unusual ticketing prices, but you can't just buy a ticket and use bits and pieces of it..

They won't cancel if you "show up for the third." They'll cancel when you DON'T show for the first one.

No, you cannot. If you fail to show for any one leg of your flight the rest will be automatically cancelled including all those for your return journey. I suggest you shop around more for your flights using comparison sites like kayak.com or Travelsupermarket.com.
