My friend is coming over on the 28th. I live in Brush Prairie, WA, and she's landing in the Portland airport (PDX). Will her flight be canceled? Also, is it dangerous for her to come over while it's snowing? Is Washington's weather going to improve?

The biggest problems are visability and icing for the aircraft. No one can accurately predict exactly how the weather conditions will be a week away. Call the airport several hours before the landing and ask them. Now, is Washington's weather going to improve? Yes, around June of next year, as usual.

The snow and ice can slow you down, of course. Maybe the wind is a big factor in these situations. It can't be too cloudy in the sky. As long as the pilots can see the route and land smoothly.

Relax. It's way too early to worry about this. No one, including the airline, can predict if a flight will be canceled due to weather a week in advance. It is not dangerous to fly while it is snowing as long as the runways are clear, the aircraft is deiced, clouds are above the legal minimums, and visibility is above the legal minimums. I have flown out of places like Minneapolis and Detroit in heavy snow and it was no big deal. If the runways can't be kept clear, or the weather is below minimums, then the flight will be canceled. It takes a very heavy snow to shut down an airport. Delays, however, become very likely during poor weather.
