I'm flying with my dog tomorrow, any suggestions

I'm flying with my dog tomorrow, any suggestions?
I've never flown with an animal before. He is riding with me and not underneath the plane. ( THANK GOD! ) But the thing is, it's gonna be a long flight from Portland to Dallas with one layover in Denver. The layover is an hour long, so I don't think that's long enough for me to take my dog outside and potty cuz then I'd have to go back through security and all that. My dog has a tendency to get very ill while riding in a car, so I have no doubt he will throw up in the plane. What should I give him food wise? How much water? Give me any and all suggestions please! Thanks for the suggestion, but actually I am taking him with me because I live in Texas. I came to Oregon to get him. I am flying with him no matter what. I don't see why people are so against it

maybe you should just walk him insted, or throw him. LOL

I'd suggest not taking the dog with you at all if it's gonna be that much of a hastle... Just ask someone you know and trust to look after the dog while you're away.

Talk to your vet. Don't feed him the day you are going but offer him water. Have spare towels and a extra large ziplock bag on hand in case he has an accident on the flight. Good luck

I flew with my dog a while ago. Your vet can give him medication to semi sedate him so that he will be more comfertable. as soon as you get a chance than let him out to go to the bathroom but definatly get a small craite for him to potty in a potty pad or towle so he dosent have and accident in the airport

Hi, I travel with 2 chihuahuas from time to time also from Portland to Louisiana. I bring them as a carry on and have not yet had any problems (knock on wood). If I have an early morning flight, I don't give them any food, only water, make sure they urinate before I get to the airport, and bring an empty water bottle and small bowl with me so I can have something to fill up once through security. An adult dog can hold their urine for up to 5 hours with no problems and unless it is a puppy, it will probably not go in their kennel while on the plane. Once I get to my final destination, I immediately take them outside. I feed them once we have made it to where I am staying and they have calmed down. If I have a late evening flight, I feed them early in the morning and make sure that they have defecated before the flight. It is a good idea to bring a few small treats and give your dog one as you board the plane and then exit the plane. This should let him know that flying is a good thing. Your dog should do just fine. Just make sure you DO NOT give him any tranquilizers to make him sleep on the plane. When in high altitude, his heart rate lowers anyway and something to make them sleep could lower his HR to an extremely low level and maybe even death.
