Do I have to retrieve and re-check in my bags in between flights

I'm flying from Minneapolis to Denver on United and then to Portland, OR on Frontier; there's 1:30 in between flights. I tried to check in online for my flight from Denver to Portland, but it said I must speak to an agent. I was wondering whether I need to leave security and retrieve my bags, and then check back in and go back through security, or when and where am I supposed to talk to an agent? I bought the whole trip together at travelocity.

You need to see the agent when you check in because you are changing airlines and they need to see your connecting flight information. They will be able to check the luggage through to Portland. No problem.

Did you buy two separate tickets? Did you book this as a through flight? If you bought two different tickets from each different airlines then you probably will need to claim and recheck your bags. If you bought this from one of the airlines then they should transfer your bags to the second leg of your flight, and you do not have to claim and re check the bags. Be sure you ask the ticket agent when you check the bags and get your boarding pass.

If your entire flight is within only one country your bags will be checked through to your final destination. there are agents at every gate. Usually you can't check in on line more than 24 hours ahead of your flight.
