Is it possible to get a free flight to job shadow

So for my Focus on Careers class,I have to pick a career that I want to get in to(Which is Flight Attending!!).And you can either search up information on the job online, possibly interview someone,or do a job shadow.I'm wanting to do the job shadow, but of course it would be tricky to get in to it because you have to be on a plane to look at what the Flight Attendants are doing.I was thinking about doing a short roundtrip flight from Portland to Seattle.Or anywhere from Portland(my nearest airport)and possibly free if they actually do that.Help! Thanks

Most likely you wont be able to get any sort of free flight... Air traffic contoller's use to get free flights prior to 9/11, called "fam. flights", up to 8 of those a year, to anywhere, and you got to jump-seat (sit up in the cockpit). But that all changed. Now not even those guys who are controlling all those thousands of flight daily get free flights. Too bad. You can just purchase a plane ticket from PDX to SEA pretty cheaply.

I'm not sure about actual job shadowing, but if you get on a flight and just ask a stew if you can contact him/her later to learn about their job, nearly all would be more than happy to share info. You may want to bring along a preprinted biz card with your email address to make it quick and easy. Also, airline employees can fly for free. If you can befriend someone in the airline biz you may be able to snag some passes. There are many possible resources, including LinkedIn and Facebook if you Google around a bit. Another one is http://nonrev.net/. As a side note, I'm a private pilot in Seattle, let me know if you want to go up for a ride sometime? It's a tiny plane, you would not only be the stewardess, but also the co-pilot. :-)

If you're already decided on this career you can skip this step. The airlines are almost always hiring for FA's. They usually fly all the applicants out to interview. They only hire about 1 in 30 so the other 29 just get a great trip out of it. Just apply and see if you like it.
