My delta flight: 2350 from Portland to Atlanta is full i think. If I show up early and check in, then I wont be booted because the flight is overbooked right? what if I have to wait for the next flight. will they give me some kind of voucher?

Well, with online check in these days a lot of people will check in online so someone who shows up early at the airport is not even really the first one to check in, most airlines let you check in 24 hours before then print your boarding pass and you can stopover at the ticket counter to check bags, if you have no bags to check, just go to straight to the gate, really, arriving early is only beneficial these days to check your bags, the earlier you arrive, the more likely they will make your flight. If you already have a reserved seat, and you check-in within a reasonable amount of time, and arrive within a reasonable amount of time you will most likely keep it. As for rolling over and getting a voucher, if they have an overbooking situation and you volunteer to give up your seat you get money (that is, you're not affected by the overbooking), then yes, you may get some compensation, but only whatever has already been offered (they're basically bidding for you to give up your seat) if you are just late and don't have any seat and are on standby... you get a meal voucher, maybe... but only if the next flight is a long wait time... anyway, just don't count on getting paid for that, though I think recent rule changes they may give you some sort of small compensation.

You don't say what date, but on that flight tomorrow and Thursday they're still selling tickets, so it can't be that full. If the flight is overbooked, they will ask for volunteers willing to take a later flight. The compensation they offer is highly negotiable, but a $100 voucher usable against future DL tickets is typical. DL allows online check in 24 hours ahead of flight time, so it would be a good idea to get to your computer 23 hrs and 59 minutes ahead of time and check in to get a seat assignment.

Every flight is always over booked, if you are one of the people who can not get onto the flight you booked then they will just put you on the next available flight, that is all they have to do. It may even be with another carrier.

A lot of airlines allow you to do online check in at least 24 hours prior to flight departure. It's better to check in online. You can show up early but if everyone else checked in online and the flight is overbooked you run the risk of being rebooked. If they have to rebook you then they will put you on the next available flight. Just because a flight is full doesn't mean you won't get on that flight.
